Micromata takes part in Oxfam Trailwalker in Belgium and Germany
It has pretty much become a tradition for Micromata's members of staff to participate in the Oxfam Trailwalker. Every year there are some volunteers who offer to face remarkable challenges: to walk 100 kilometres in 30 hours and to raise a minimum of €2000 per team. The money goes directly to Oxfam who use it to finance projects in Africa such as relief of emergency situations stemming from natural catastrophes or armed conflicts as well as investing in education and infrastructure.
The Aid Organisation Oxfam is the Winner of the Transparency Award 2009 and is examined and recommended by the German Central Institute for Social Enquiries (DZI).
Training regularly for the event is not the only challenge so is raising the required amount of money. "Merely making an appeal for sponsorship usually is not suffice," explains Moritz Fröhner, information architect at Micromata GmbH who also participates in the Trailwalker. "You are more likely to get people to sponsor you if you demonstrate personal engagement."
Micromata has gained some experience in collecting money for sponsorship. One of the most successful initiatives was selling waffles at a stall in front of the tegut-branch in Kassel Marbachshöhe, a fund-raising event much welcomed by the audience and supported by the tegut-branch with providing the venue as well as the ingredients.
Social initiatives has been part of Micromata's agenda for a long time. The participation in the Oxfam Trailwalker event is only one of many projects Micromata GmbH initiates in Kassel. Micromata's goal is to demonstrate that a globalised economy requires a globalised responsibility.
